It was a moody spring day on Cayuga Lake. Clouds that never really lifted. The kind of sky that makes everything feel quieter, softer, more intimate. Like the whole world pulled back and gave them space to just be in it together.
The morning started slow and warm. Elizabeth got ready in the School House, the Inns of Aurora's newly restored space tucked into the property. Hair and makeup in a sunlit room. The gown hanging in the window, waiting. RJ in his white jacket, fixing his bow tie, taking a breath. And then Elizabeth with her mom, the two of them realizing all at once that this was really happening. You could feel it in the room before anyone said a word.
The Day
The first look happened out by the old stone wall, Cayuga Lake stretched grey and still behind them, the bare spring trees reaching overhead. Elizabeth and RJ were never performing. Every glance, every touch, every time they found each other across a room told the same story. These two are genuinely, deeply in love.
They said their vows under the tent at the water's edge, everyone they love close enough to touch. Then a kiss, a walk back up the aisle, and the whole night opened up.
The father daughter dance stopped the room. Grandpa was in tears before the song even settled in, standing off to the side, the quiet kind of crying that comes from a man who has watched this little girl her whole life. That kind of love cannot be staged. It is just there, woven into a family, waiting for a moment like that.
After that the night belonged to everyone. A cake with a little white dog standing guard on top. A first dance. A floor that never emptied. And at the end, the two of them slipped away across the lawn toward the lake, alone for a second, the whole day settling in behind them.
Some love stories you do not just watch. You feel them in your chest. Theirs is one of those.
The Venue
The Inns of Aurora is one of the most intimate and beautifully considered wedding venues in the Finger Lakes. Perched on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake in Aurora, New York, it offers a rare combination of historic architecture, refined hospitality, and natural surroundings that give every wedding here its own quiet sense of place. Elizabeth got ready in the newly restored School House, the resort's latest space and a beautiful spot for a bride to spend the morning before the day begins.
